Hi Alice,

My name is Jaya and I am Shiva's mom who is your math student at Sunnyvale.
I am taking this opportunity to thank you and your dedicated staff for bringing about such a positive change in Shiva. It was just about a year ago, when we were worried about Shiva's math. My friend advised us to enroll him at Kumon. After visiting most of the centers around our area, I was impressed with yours. Today Shiva is an Honor roll student at Kumon and way above his grade level at school. I am really very proud of him...Thanks to you.

Regards, Jaya

I was in first grade when I first heard of ?Kumon.? It was very common for Japanese children to play all day together in our neighborhood. However, some of my friends magically disappeared twice a week. One day I happened to pass a large building where children holding pencils quietly sat at tables. They were doing something which I did not know. I could recognize the faces of children who were regarded as smart among them. Time passed and I became 7th grader. My parents forced me to join Kumon because I was not so great grade at math and English. I took the test and naturally started from quite low level for my age. There were students who did Kumon from 5 years old, and were advanced students in my Kumon center. Out of frustration and embarrassment, I did ten pages homework both math and speed reading English. Thanks to my teacher, who was very enthusiastic, I finished M in math and all of the material for English. She called every student who did not show up in order to drag them out from their house. My grades in math and English went up. I developed the habit to study all school textbooks in addition to Kumon homework. I set a goal to read at least 15 pages from every subject every day, and I eventually got into UC Berkeley.

Kumon was like boot camp that taught me a lesson. Lesson 1: Do little homework everyday. Lesson 2: I had to start to study math at Kumon at a 1st grade level.

I am now a mother of 3 children, and I highly recommend my children to do Kumon as soon as possible when they start to read and hold pencil. Like sports and art, children become naturally good at math if they start it early. Kumon is a place to make math an easy snap. My daughter studies math (level D) at Kumon is very confident to say that she is good at math.
