“When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.”
Today, we gather to honor, remember, and celebrate the life of Dr. Sidney Hu — a life marked by purpose, dedication, and quiet strength.
Dr. Hu began his academic journey at National Taiwan Normal University before coming to the United States to pursue graduate studies. He earned his master’s degree in Cleveland, Ohio, and later completed his Ph.D. at the University of Houston. He began his professional career in Texas and eventually settled in California, where he devoted more than thirty-five years to materials engineering and scientific research at Lockheed Martin till his retirement. During his career, he received multiple Superior Performance Awards and was recognized for special contributions and innovative inventions. He also served on Science Review Committees and as a science fair judge, mentoring younger generations and nurturing future talent.
In community service, Mr. Hu Hsin-Kuei was always wholeheartedly involved. He served as a committee member for the Republic of China National Day Flag-Raising Ceremony and hosted the Taiwanese & Chinese American Athletic Tournament volleyball competition for ten consecutive years. He was a dedicated and valued member of both the Northern California Hakka Association and the Northern California NTNU Alumni Association. Blessed with a rich and warm voice, he was also an important member of the Kalavinka Choir, the Little Raindrops Choir, and the NTNU–Hakka (SPARC) Choir. Though humble and soft-spoken, he carried every responsibility with quiet strength and grace. Whether in work, service, music, or sports, he lived with discipline, dedication, and heart.
Most importantly, he was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a steady pillar for his family. He guided his children with wisdom and led by example. His care was gentle but far-reaching; his love constant, deep, and unwavering.
Today, we choose gratitude over sorrow. We give thanks for the life he lived and the example he set. Though he has left for the pure land, the goodness he cultivated and the wisdom he shared remain with us .
May we carry his memory forward in the way we live, love, and serve others.
